When It Comes to Catalogs, Think Diversity

Today’s technology allows distributors to showcase their product offerings in many different types of catalogs:  Paper, CDs, handheld devices, and, of course, the web.  This diversity has given rise to companies that will work with you to create custom and professional catalogs in a cost-effective and efficient way.  Here’s a look at developments in each category.

Paper Catalogs

Paper catalogs are still the most popular because many contractors still prefer the paper route.  They are familiar, convenient, and highly portable - making them a must-have for any wholesale or distribution business. Many times, once your print catalog is set up, you will have the ability to quickly create custom catalogs with different pricing for branch locations or niche markets.

CD Catalogs

CD catalogs are another great tool for your customers. Some CD catalogs mimic the organization of your print catalog to provide your customers with easy, consistent navigation across all of your catalog mediums. In one company’s CD catalog, your customers can view product specs and images right on their computer. They can also create orders and transmit orders to you electronically or by fax.

Web Catalogs

Web Catalogs are currently used by a relatively small number of contractors, but the number is rapidly growing. Systems are now designed to look and feel like many traditional e-commerce systems on the market, but without the unnecessary clutter. That means that your customers can quickly, and easily order products from you without the hoops many e-commerce systems force the user to endure.

Handheld Catalogs

Handheld catalogs are also growing in popularity due to their compact size and portability. You and your customers can have your product information right at their fingertips. The lightening-fast search technology integrated into handheld software enables you to find the product you need right away. Time is money, so a handheld catalog is a great investment.

Depending on the sophistication of your customer base, an integrated approach to how and to whom you distribute your catalogs is an exciting thing to consider.
