Recent Passings
Dr. Milton Nathanson, 87, died March 9. He was a practicing optometrist
until 1952, when he joined Universal Manufacturing, Paterson N.J., where he
eventually became vice president of sales and marketing. He left the company
in 1983 to open his agency, MN Electrical Sales. Among other activities, according
to The Star-Ledger (Newark, N.J.), he was chairman of the (National)
Lighting Bureau.
J.D. “Jimmy” Smith, 73, died March 10. From the News &
Observer (Raleigh, N.C.): “His 47 years in the electrical supply industry
included GE Supply, Cameron & Barkley/Hagemeyer, Maddux/Mayer Electric,
and J.D.S. Lighting Concepts.”
Nominees
Gov. Susana Martinez has nominated several people to the Construction Industries
Commission, which develops regulations for New Mexico’s construction industry.
Included:
- D. Randy Baker (Albuquerque), owner of D.R.B. Electric
- James Garcia (Albuquerque), president and GM of U.S. Electrical
Association People
Alliance to Save Energy—five new members were put on the ASE
board, including Jeff Drees, U.S. country president for Schneider Electric.
CCA—the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) presented its
Trade Contractor Award of Recognition to John Schubert of McCaine Electric,
Winnipeg, Manitoba. He’ll become the chair of the CCA in 2012.
IEEE—the group gave its 2011 Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Conference Electrical Safety Excellence Award to Jim White, training
director for Shermco Industries.
NECA—the Long Island, N.Y., chapter said that Joseph Gathard
(All Service Electric, Smithtown) is the new president. Paul Dunn (Mainline
Electric, Huntington Station) is the new vice president. Nicolaus Feldmann
(Eldor Contracting, Holbrook) was named governor.
NEMA—recent NEMA board changes include:
- Christopher Curtis, president and CEO of Schneider Electric North
America, was elected treasurer of NEMA. He also was named to the executive
committee of NEMA’s Board of Governors.
- Zia Eftekhar, CEO of Philips Lighting North America was elected to
the Board.
- So was Michael Pessina, president, office of product development
at Lutron Electronics.
Moves, Adds & Switches
COLONIAL COMMERCIAL NAMES VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS—Melissa Goldman-Williams
is the new vice president of operations for Colonial Commercial. She’s been
on the board of Colonial since October 2004. She’s also worked at various executive
positions in at least two distribution companies in the period 1996 to 2010.
At the same time, Pete Gasiewicz was named to serve as a
company director, bringing the number of directors to seven. He has been and
remains vice president of sales for Colonial Commercial.
ENCORE WIRE CHANGES—
W.T. Bigbee—with the company since January 1998, he’s held
various positions in quality control and technical services (and, the company
said, “was instrumental in the opening of Encore Wire’s new R&D center”).
He’s now vice president for product and research development services.
Todd Clayton—was promoted to vice president for facilities
engineering. He came to the company in April 2000 as a plant engineer.
Donny Spurgin—now is vice president of sales development;
his most recent previous promotion came in 2007, when he became national sales
director. He joined the company in 1995.
IDEAL CHANGES—

Adam Teipel—he’s joined IDEAL Industries as sales manager for the
Western Electrical sales organization. He previously served in sales management
at Accurate Metal Fabricators and Phoenix Contact. |
| Mike Weiby—he comes to IDEAL from Sears Brand Marketing,
where he was product development engineering manager for DieHard batteries
and Craftsman Tools. He was hired to fill a new IDEAL position product development
manager. |
LEVITON FILLS SUPPLY CHAIN POST—Steve Nikrant, formerly of Eaton,
where he was vice president supply chain for the hydraulic group, is now vice
president of the supply chain for Leviton Manufacturing.
McNAUGHTON-McKAY ADDS TO BOARD—Delton Nickel, retired president
of Pentair Technical Products (Hoffman Enclosures), has been added to the board
of directors at McNaughton-McKay. A 41-year veteran of the electrical industry,
Nickel began his career in 1969 with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley)—where
he spent more than 23 years; the next 17 were with Hoffman.
REXEL ELEVATES ALFONSO—Vic Alfonso, who started with Rexel in
1996, was named Pueblo, Colo., area manager, according to the March 6 Pueblo
Chieftain—which added that “he most recently served as manager of automation
products.”
